Message: Yesterday we were clearing some dirt and wood debris from the driveway where we had our wood pile all winter long.
In shoveling some of the dirt into the wheelbarrow we discovered some really large worms were hiding in the dirt. Garrison hadn't seen a worm before, and he really liked getting to hold one and play with it!
Message: Have you seen the Elmo's World episode where Elmo opens the door to a tornado (Auntie Em! Auntie Em!) and then has to chase it out? Well Emmett has.
While on our evening walk yesterday, Emmett expressed his recent fear of
tornadoes. Yesterday he heard on the weather a tornado warning was going
to be in effect for the evening.
He kept asking questions like: "If I
hide in the basement, will the tornado not see me, and won't suck me
up?" or "If the tornado knocks on the door, and I don't open it, will it
go away?" or "why does the tornado have eyes?".
He was very concerned that a tornado was going to get him in his sleep.
As it turns out, both boys were fast asleep by 9pm last night, and by
10pm the tornado sirens went off, and the wind really picked up. For those who don't know, there is a tornado siren just across the street from our house. There's no way you wouldn't be able to hear it go off.
Then
the marble sized hail started falling, and flash flood rain started pouring down.
A tree branch from the cedar tree in our back yard fell, narrowly
missing the house, a neighbor's 15 foot cedar uprooted, his fence blew
down, we saw siding laying out in the street (we don't know who's house
it came from), and some power lines were down.
Amy and I were standing in the garage watching the rain and hail and we had to
close the garage door and quit watching because it was coming in
sideways (and hurt!).
Amy and I went back inside, and thought about grabbing the kids to rush
them downstairs as the wind was really blowing, and we weren't sure how much longer the storm was going to last.
A few moments later, the tornado sirens went off again.
Then all of a sudden it quit, and we could see the storm blew over (leaving a very impressive lightning show).
Two tornado sirens, very strong wind, rain, hail (and possibly a
tornado) blew right through our yard, and both kids (even the paranoid
one) slept through it!
